Empowering Humanitarian Action

Cash and Voucher Assistance Training Equips Professionals from 15 Countries

Amman, Jordan played host to a crucial five-days Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) training program from February 23rd to 27th, bringing together ADRA workers from 15 countries representing MENA and other Regions. Training has been conducted by the experts from CaLP. CALP is a global network of over 90 organizations engaged in the critical areas of policy, practice and research in humanitarian cash and voucher assistance (CVA).

The intensive workshop aimed to equip ADRA workers with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively implement CVA programs in emergency contexts.

The training addressed a wide range of critical topics, emphasizing the importance of market analysis in humanitarian response. Participants gained a deep understanding of key concepts in market analysis, exploring why functioning markets are essential for the livelihoods and well-being of individuals affected by disasters. The program highlighted the benefits of market-aligned programming, which leverages existing market structures to deliver aid efficiently and empower beneficiaries.

Participants delved into the intricacies of CVA, examining both its opportunities and challenges. They learned practical tools and methodologies for conducting thorough market assessments, enabling them to identify needs, understand market dynamics, and design effective intervention strategies. The training explored various CVA delivery mechanisms, equipping participants with the knowledge to select the most appropriate approach based on context-specific factors.

Monitoring and evaluation were given due emphasis, ensuring participants understood how to assess the impact of CVA projects and make necessary adjustments for optimal results. Recognizing the inherent complexities of humanitarian work, the program also addressed risks and assumptions associated with CVA, as well as how to design and implement CVA projects tailored to the specifics of a particular situation and how to develop mitigation strategies.

Finally, the training culminated in a comprehensive session on designing and implementing CVA projects, providing participants with a practical framework for translating theoretical knowledge into actionable plans.

As the result of the training, the participants gained knowledge about the principles of the CVA, learned about the importance of markets for people affected by natural disasters and conflicts, as well as how the CVA can contribute to the recovery of local economies.

Upon successful completion of the training, all participants received certificates, solidifying their newfound expertise in CVA. This program served as a powerful catalyst for capacity building within the humanitarian sector, equipping ADRA’s professionals from MENA and other countries with the skills needed to deliver effective and impactful assistance to those affected by crises around the world.

Cash and voucher assistance training is an important step in the development and improvement of humanitarian assistance making the work of ADRA more effective, efficient and sustainable.
